I did a lot of math after ditching the DVR for this exact model several months ago. Now the cable operator provided DVR consumes on average 20W continuous. That approximates to about $2/month...

don't know about energy savings. How much energy do their provided DVR boxes use? But you're definitely correct in the savings compared to renting the DVR box
