Depends on what you do with the HTPC. If all you do is watch and record 2 TV streams, Atom is more than enough. If you use extenders, or re-encode, then it is not.

You picked just about the only app that'll actually use more cores, but the i3/i5 with quicksync will still eat an six core phenom in video encoding.
