If it is coming from Japan I would think there would be an import tax or duty or something to get it through customs? If so how does that work? I never dealt with that before..

Of course it is imported bc it is shipped from Japan. No matter where you bought it from, in the US, Japan, Korea, the lens is still manufactured in China. If you are worried about Olympus...
