I just can't get a feel of how the market reacts to gold. A friend of mine used price ratios of other precious metals and wouldn't buy gold unless it was much cheaper than platinum.

eBay has a ton of legit sellers offering gold by the gram and ounce. Just read the fine print, some sellers dance around the fact that it's gold-plated or grain not gram.
