additionally, if some thing goes wrong, India service centers will not touch your TV, so using it makes sure that it does not have a inherent defect.

I would suggest to send it with someone as luggage. Couple of my friends have done it. It could be checked in as extra baggage and is there when you land.
If you mail it out, you would for sure...

I would think usps.com would be the 'cheapest' way to do this - you can find out the cost/restrictions at this LINK
But you can also get online quotes from FedEx and UPS
