Besides your troubles with the router, are you happy with the internet and tv service? I am think of signing up with them and don't know anyone that has their service yet.

you can change the password and look to see is on your network, it is what I would do, see if they can turn wireless off or not?

Can't say I know anything about CenturyLink but I don't think you're adding any security by plopping in your own router unless you can turn wifi off on the provided one too.
