Lori Grunnen never has anything nice to say about Sony cameras. I've stopped looking to CNET for reviews after so many instances of sponsor backed reviews and decisions. (Notice they no longer do the...

You are right that the best way to figure out if a camera is right for you is to try it out in the store and see how it feels in your hands. I am however puzzled by your comments on the Sony Alpha. ...

No doubt a very good deal, regardless of the it's first price of $379. and now $420. I looked at this camera last fall when Sony direct had them (and still often do) at $448. including bag and SD...

Honestly, I've never heard of this issue, and been bouncing around alpha-mount forums for years. Do you have a source? It could be technically true, but really true of any electronics. Some small...

Caveat emptor - Many of the Sony Alpha bodies have issues with focus accuracy. This included both their crop sensor cameras like this one all the way up to their full frame A mount cameras.

IMO the BIG difference is in body stabilization. With Sony's system you don't need to pay extra for stabilized lenses, all lenses (including the gorgeous old minolta glass I'm obsessed with) are...

Since we are all playing guessing (educated) games, my view is that Sony spend 2yrs+ on one line then the other. I rem the year when a99 was announced along with I think a6? and I think a7? or a8?...

I would not worry too much about the A mount. The reality is, most buyers for an a58 here won't even change the lens and if they do so, at most it's 1-2 extra lenses. It's an entry level dslr and...

I wouldn't trust CNET with cameras based on their track record. You are better off with reviews from photography oriented sites, like DpReview, Imaging-Resource, etc. I like this review from...

Not sure how much of an upgrade you going to get with A58. Even though it starts with A5, it is really not an upgrade to A57 (or true 5-series camera), as Sony seems to be trying to position A58 as...
