These results are very odd.
Are all the tests done while wired?
Did you disable the dhcp for the routers? This probably won't affect the speed but having a double NAT is annoying.

I have a strange issue. I recently upgraded my internet from 15/1 mbps to 100/5 mbps. I then bought the new Asus RT-AC56R (AC1200) router to replace my old Belkin n300. I then conducted a series...

Food for thought...
Did you disable the wireless via the Router and try a hardwired pc to the Router and then do a speed test?
Or are your speed tests via the wireless connection vs. the direct...

Now don't get too cheap.
Remember you need gigabit LAN and WAN. The 10/100 WAN port is what is killing your speed (and the age of the router).

You don't have any AC devices and IMHO it's not worth bothering with AC now. It's just like it was buying super-Pre-N, Pre-N, N, N300, super N, etc. Let the standards and hardware mature before...

Your desire for AC limits you somewhat on choice. The Netgear Nighthawk also seems pretty popular these days, but just like the AC66U it has it's share of bad reviews.
The Tplink ARcher C7 might...

Throughput is absolutely faster on newer routers and it can result in speed bumps even on slower connections. AC66U would be my pick in that high end router category and it has been on a sale a few...

Sure the list goes from best to worst in terms of WAN to LAN and Node to Node throughput which is what you seem to want and any of the top ones should improve your performance.

Any device/connector will degrade the inherent speed of the ISP connection. That being said Gig ports will possibly help but its more a function of the internal NAT hardware/software/firmware.
