I was just able to use the voicemail settings change as illustrated by DaveB9524. Thank you guys for all your comments. Called cricket customer service but the associate was not able to help...

I made an account to say this fixed mine. I deleted "*86" and entered my phone number (no + at the beginning) and it worked first shot.

So its April 17 2018, some time since your original answer and it still works on Samsung Note 4 with Cricket. Cricket should pay you for the answer since they themselves do not still know how to fix...

Galaxy S3 enter settings. Go to CALL then VOICEMAIL SETTINGS. Change the number from *86 to your cricket number. Remember to insert the 1 and area code. Just worked for me. Happy Thanksgiving

Just quoting so OP sees that the solution is available.
The visual voicemail app on Cricket is a lifesaver (now if they would only allow 3rd party visual voicemail apps we would be golden).
