What the manual says on page 20 is confusing, but I can confirm that this sound bar does accept Dolby 5.1 when using my Amazon TV Fire Stick using the HDMI port.

To me that sounds like your TV is not outputting the audio. HDMI6 is for ARC. Go through your tv settings and make sure that ARC/CEC is enabled.

I returned this and kept the 2.1 Vizio deal for $69 from Amazon for my parents. I have this sound bar personally (the 5.1), but I was blown away by the 2.1 in comparison (and at 1/3 the price).
