I solved the humming issue on both of my similar j110 subs but inverting the leads on the power cord (reversed which wires went to the wide blade of plug and the narrow blade). Hum was 99%...

 Amazon would definitely be refunding me for that! I know it's an old thread, but I just had to comment.

Excellent post. I tried to rep you but couldn't because the post is too old. What sub for $600-800 would you recommend that would be MUCH better? And in a moderately sized dedicated home theater,...

This is on sale again for $130 after $20 rebate. How are the ones that people bought working out for them? How's the build and sound quality.

Maybe try a different outlet in the house. It might be picking up noise from your speaker wires or some other electrical cable. For car audio at least you're supposed to run the power wire down one...

That's a drag. How far do you have the gain turned up? Does it hum only after you plug in the cable? If it doesn't hum when the cable is plugged into just the sub, but _does_ hum when it's plugged...

Ah, cool - yeah, amazing how good sound you can get even with pretty small/cheap bookshelf speakers when you add the sub. You might want to try setting the crossover on the avr to something like 90...

yeah auto config uses a mic, I'm so dumb I thought all it did was adjust for speaker distances... it really did fix things, never heard music sound so good from anything I've ever owned I ran the...

Hmm, if the auto-config uses a microphone to set up the speakers like mine, then it should also be adjusting the output level to the sub to balance the output across the speakers for you. It may be...

Ha, I got a pair of those insignias in the recent deal too..pretty decent. They're rated down to 80hz, so that's where it's about best to set the crossover. If your receiver/amp has a subwoofer...
