I've been using a lightweight spinning rod and reel with a little Bitsy Pond Minnow crank bait. That thing catches anything and everything and its fun. It has stayed on my line for over a year....

water levels are low, but i dont know of any lakes closed due to it. Even DVL is back open... Castaic, Pyramid, DVL, Perris, Silverwood etc... all great lakes... all open...

I personally don't buy telescoping or multi-piece rods. i can't stand them, even though they're easier to transport. i find i can fit my 7' rod into my car just fine. i'd rather have the sensitivity...
