I think you only said N. California in general? I'm sure SW flies cheap from Seattle to 2 or 3 of the 4 N. Cali cities? Try SFO, OAK, SJC & SAC.. 2 free 50 lbs bags for each person flying!

There is a site called bikeflights.com, I use it to ship bicycles when I sell them and a lot of triathletes use it to ship their gear if they are traveling for a race, they have really good fedex...

Try Craigslist, I'm sure nice people are driving that route everyday with room in their vehicle. Maybe $10 up front and $30 from whoever they drop it off to? That would sure help their gas bill too!
