Google "hard drive test" and run tests that take a while to complete. Badblocks is good, but it may be linux only. There should be windows tests floating around too.

Where are you seeing the SMARTS test data that you are referencing too for power on hours? I can't seem to find that in any of the smarts tools I ran.

Very, the 32MB was a Deskstar Desktop, however they've been shipping 64MB cache version for a while - which is a MegaScale, it'll show the same part # as above in CrystalDiskInfo or whatever HDD...

You sure about that? They really seem to list it as a different (Megascale) drive. I thought the plain 'coolspin' drive was just their version of a 'green' (5400-5700) drive.
