as long as you have a way of sealing the rear of the speaker from the front it should be okay. you probably want as much space as possible too

These are meant to be recessed, so no, you can't. You can just put them on the shelf, but they don't have feet for vibration.

I got polks 10 inch ceiling pics like 10 of them in 3 different times. it was as low as $48 at some point.

At this price I'd rather get the polks from Frys. I've seen the 8 inch in ceiling speakers for $55 new 4 times in the past 2 or 3 months. Just have to join their email list.
