Agree with Snake_byte that the ISY controller by Universale Devices is an exceptionally good home automation centerpiece. Especially for those who like to customize things to their own tastes.

Been using this for 6 months. Best thing ever. Just use the Insteon app. When paired with Echo I can raise and lower the temperature by asking Alexa.

For z-wave I recommend Samsung Smartthings (v2.0) hub I agree with this ^. Ecobee is a sweet thermostat, you won't want anything else once you experience the ease of use and...

Personally, I would stick with what you've got. You don't need any other equipment (hubs) for the Ecobee, and the Amazon Echo lets you have voice control.

I got the ecobee3 with amazon echo bundle for $200 because an amazon rep gave me a discount. This will not ship until oct 20. Should I stick with that or get this instead?

The thermostat is a programmable thermostat by itself. In order to access it from your smartphone (in your house, or from outside), you need a hub such as the Insteon Hub or the ISY-994i.

Unless you get an ISY-994iZw instead of the Insteon Hub. The ISY can control Insteon, X10. and Z-wave devices. It's also significantly more programmable, although it can be more difficult if...

So this is not wi-fi controllable by itself? It needs the insteon central hub? Hate to have competing technologies. Would Smartthings be all that much better?
