Thank you all. I swapped around cable etc. I didn't mess with the settings since it worked ok on a marginal HDMI port on the same tv. I just ordered the 3 port. If it doesn't work, I'll return it via...

I have never faced this situation but I agree with jkee, probably your best chance of eliminating these troubles would be to use a hdmi switch such as this one at Amazon or getting a new tv.

Different devices do in fact provide stronger/weaker hdmi signals...so the same cable and tv can have issues if being fed by one device and be perfectly fine with another...this is generally seen as...

I think you're on the right track re: resolution. HDMI is digital so there's no strong or weak. If you have a bad/cheap cable or port you will either get no picture or pixelation artifacts.
