These work by charging your battery more so than a quick jump. It takes up to 15 minutes depending on how "dead" your battery is. It monitors the cars battery voltage and gives you the OK to start....

Did u just unbox the unit and tried to jumpstart? The unit might have discharged due to long term storage in the sealed box.

just got one last night and it sucks doesnt really work you have to leave it connected 15-20 mins before you turn on your car. Tried it on a v6 highlander. My battery wasnt completely dead either.
