Have you tried a 14500 battery on it? I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Don't blame you for hating the zoom, I don't like zoomies either.

The 8 dollar one just came in the mail. Got 2 of the 18650 or whatever batteries on amazon for 15 bucks with a charger, and man is this thing bright. I wish the low was a bit lower but anyone worried...

Use a 14500. You'll be very impressed.
My fafvorite small light is astrolux A01. Moonlight, 10lumen medium, and 100 or 120 lumen high on a AAA. Very nice!
