A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

The owner, was that Irrfan Khan? I hated to see him go too, as he was the ONLY good actor in the whole damned movie. Annoyed

Chris Pratt is pretty to look at but his acting skills are abysmal. Bryce Howard was outstanding in The Help but her character in Jurassic World was the equivalent of Jessica Rabbit.
I didn't really care for the acting from most of the people in this movie, I think I was more invested in the park and the dinos more than anything else and why I liked it. I felt the people in there were very minor to everything else happening in the movie which was cool. bounce

Just saw Godfather and Jurassic Park Lost World on TV.

Was funny to see the T Rex walking around a city.

Watched this new show "Mr. Robot" .

Dark themed with an element of conspiracy/hacking going on. Loved it, looking forward to the next.

Free on hulu or youtube. USA put it out free to watch the Pilot.

Book series is fantastic. It's similar to 6th Sense style stuff but yes the movie didn't cut it. It had the right quarkiness like the books but lacked the draw and seriousness.

Nightcrawler

- this gets a 5/5. Outstanding performance by Jake Gyllenhaal. He looks really creepy in his role and you will despise him by the end.I feel like there is a lot of truth in the movie as to how the media pushes for more gory footage of crimes and murders to get more ratings. It's on Netflix btw.

Jurassic World - It's ok entertainment-wise, but every character is unlikeable except for Chris Pratt. Well, one other character was kind of likeable, but he got killed quickly.

If you don't know how the final fight will end within the first 30 or so minutes of the movie, you probably don't watch enough movies. Maybe that's a good thing.

Kumiko The Treasure Hunter - A shy Japanese woman finds a VHS copy of Fargo and thinks the digging up a suitcase of cash out of the snow part is real and travels to America to do it to make her dreams come true. Slow but interesting, somewhat funny in an understated, quirky, sad way. Does a good job of combining depression and hope.

Inside Out - Some complicated memory and emotion and thinking process theories going on in this movie, dumbed down and cutesied up, but it's still interesting in that regard and is entertaining. Heck, it might be worth seeing just for the emo scene during the final credits.

"What are we mad about?"
"I'unno. Whatever Troy's mad about."
"What's Troy mad about?"
"I'unno."
and
"Do you think they can tell we're a total fraud?"
"Of course not! We're wearing eye shadow!"
laugh out loud

Saw it today with my Hooligans, it was excellent. The last Pixar movie this good and creative was Monsters, Inc.

Highly recommended!! Thumbsup <-- two of those

Ex Machina - 2/5 - Not sure about others but I thought this movie was quite predictable. I had some hopes for it being a bit better because it got very good reviews but it was not that great.

Hours - 2/5 - Good acting by Paul Walker but the movie itself is nothing to write about.

Jurassic World - great movie, some decent sentimentality. I don't get why it's grossing over 600M domestically and probably over a Bill world wide. It's great and all but not epic.

Movie greatness and box office numbers are unrelated. Transformers.

It Follows

4/5 Very refreshing to see a thriller made old school. If you love Carpenter classics, you will find this interesting.
