SD Tips: Find the Best Office & School Supplies Deals

From paper and pens to office furniture and printers, it’s easy to overspend on supplies for school or your home office. If you’ve got multiple kids in school or a home business, the burden is even greater to save money. We’ve got you covered, though, with all the best deals, coupons and specials on office and school supplies right here.

The rule of thumb on buying school or office supplies is that the longer you wait to buy during the back-to-school season, the better the deal you’re going to get. The real sales tend to start in August since most retailers know that shoppers will want to stock up before the school year starts. However, if you put off buying until September, you’ll cash in on those inventory clearance sales and really save big. For the best deals, check out Walmart and Target. They both have a good selection on name brand and off-brand supplies and offer great discounts. If your kids (or their teachers) aren’t picky about brand or color, you might also consider Dollar Tree.

If you’re starting a home business and need to purchase office furniture, look for big sales in May. Since most business launch after tax day, many retailers start offering discounts on big ticket office furniture, like desks, office chairs and filing cabinets, in April. Once you get ready to buy, be sure to shop online. You’ll find a better selection and often better prices (just watch out for shipping costs.) Staples e-commerce site is a good place to start, but don’t discount retailers that you don’t typically associate with office furniture, such as Wayfair or Costco. If you’re really on a budget, check out Ikea for minimalist and inexpensive desks and office chairs.
