Top Halloween Deals
Whether you celebrate Halloween by wearing the spookiest costume or by giving out the most candy, being prepared for this ghoulish day is just as important as saving money with the best Halloween deals. We have all the latest coupons and promos with various retailers up until the very last minute to make sure you have twice the fun on a shoestring budget.
If you're looking for some fun and scary home decor, your local Pottery Barn or Home Depot may do the trick. Don't forget to check out Amazon and Walmart, which also offer competitively low prices on similar items. What's Halloween without treats? Save big when you buy candy in bulk at Walgreens and Costco, so you'll never run out of treats to hand out. When shopping at these stores, be sure to pick up sales flyers, as they're generally stocked with Halloween coupons.
Whether you're looking for a costume that'll make people scream, laugh or something in between, your first stop should be Spirit Halloween. It has a great selection of adult and children's costumes, accessories and party goods, and as its name suggests, it's about all things Halloween. Other retailers to check out include Costume Craze and Hot Topic. You can score a complete costume at the former and all the accessories and makeup needed to create your own at the latter.
While you might start seeing Halloween items creeping into stores come August, the best time to grab a deal – especially on costumes – is the first week or two of October. You might see more drastic Halloween discounts as the holiday draws near and retailers are eager to avail themselves of remaining stock, but remember that selections will probably be slim. If you're not particular about what you'll dress as, this might be the ideal time to shop. Also, keep in mind that the day after Halloween is also when retailers try to sell off what's left, and they'll mark down their prices dramatically to sell. You'll be able to get good Halloween discounts on items for the following year. Decor and costumes don't tend to go out of style, but it would be a safe bet to forgo stocking up on candy for next year's trick-or-treaters.
We took a look at some of the top Halloween expenses, from costumes and candy to decorations and party favors, in order to help you save. We’ve got tips on where to shop, what to buy and when to think outside of the box so that your Halloween is a hit with friends and family, instead of a hit to your wallet!
Halloween Candy: Halloween candy deals have been popping up more and more recently, with larger bags of candy topping $20. However, savvy online shopping could mean snagging a big, 105-count bag of chocolates for only $8.49, with free shipping too. If your neighborhood is a popular trick-or-treating destination, the key is to think big. The bigger the bag, typically the bigger the discount. For example, Amazon recently offered this 250-piece bag of Mars candies for just $15.90 (currently $30 to $35). Keep your eyes peeled on the Slickdeals Frontpage for more of these deals the closer we get to Halloween.
Gift Bag Fillers: Hollar.com is a great place to find some fun fillers for kids gift bags without having to sift through the mess at your local dollar store. Check out their Hollarween Shop for things like spooky stickers and silly sunglasses to keep the tikes entertained this holiday. There are even party blowers and other party essentials. Plus, if you print out the code on spooky Halloween papers, you can even include the digital download codes for Disney movies from Hollar.com for as low as $2, or copies of Max Brooks’ “The Zombie Survival Guide” at Amazon for $2 for the adults. This a great non-candy/non-toy option for gift bags.
Party Settings: Plates, spoons, cups and other required items for your upcoming bash can all be found on sale. Start low with the dollar store-style savings at Hollar.com or check out other ways of saving on these simple items if you don’t find what you need there. If you’re willing to go with plain paper plates and plastic cups, as opposed to Halloween-themed ones, you can save a bundle. Use the money you save to spruce up the rest of your decorations and party goers will hardly notice what they’re eating off of. Alternatively, if white plates and napkins just won’t do, go for plain black plates and bright orange napkins. They’ll still give off the Halloween vibe, but you’ll spend less. For example, Amazon is currently selling a 50-count package of black plastic plates for just over $10. Meanwhile, these Halloween-themed plates are selling for $2 for an eight pack. Now, that’s still a good deal, but you’re only getting 40 plates for $10 instead of 50. That’s a no brainer, people.
Household Decorations: One of the creepiest items we found was an animated farm boy by Halloween Effects. With an MSRP of $321.98, this creepy moving and laughing doll is currently on sale for $99.99, which is a huge discount on a decoration you can use again and again each year. This clown peeper decoration is a close runner up in the creepy decoration department, and it’s currently nearly 30% off. Aside from specific pieces for your yard, you can also save other ways, too. Garden.com is offering many outdoor and indoor decorations for 15% off, including bats, witches, vampires, spiders and more.
Scary Good Deals on Digital Horror Movies and TV Shows: Several of the 4K UHD sales from last week are gone from iTunes, though you can still pick up cheap HD copies of The Evil Dead (1982), Cabin in the Woods, The Last Witch Hunter, and 3:10 to Yuma for $4.99. To make up for the titles that are no longer on sale, iTunes is offering a number of spooky (or gruesome) Halloween titles from Arrow Video for just $3.99! Amazon pretty much always has a pile of digital movies on sale, and this week is no exception. Here are just a few of the titles you can get in HD for $4.99 this week, and you can check out our dedicated article for the full list of sale titles. Sale items include Carrie (1976), Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, Teen Wolf (1985), Misery, Hannibal (2001) and I Saw the Devil (English subtitled). VUDU may not be running quite as many sales this week as Amazon or iTunes, but what it lacks in quantity it makes up for in quality. Anyone looking for something seasonal to keep the kiddos occupied this Halloween, VUDU has the entire Hotel Transylvania trilogy in HD on sale for $19.99. Those seeking more adult fare can check out Jordan Peele’s latest chiller Us in 4K UHD for $9.99 — iTunes also has it for the same price, or you can pick up both Us and Get Out for $14.99.
