- Unlocking -
For AT&T phones
- Do NOT turn the phone before the phone is unlocked
- Request the unlock here[att.com] as a NON AT&T wireless customer
- Wait for the unlock confirmation email and click the confirmation link in the email
- Wait for successfully unlocked email and NOW the phone can be turned on
For Verizon phones
- Do NOT turn the phone on
- Insert a Verizon Post Pay (contract) SIM card
- Turn the phone on and the phone is now unlocked and can be used with any carrier now
SIM free = iPhones that do not come pre-installed with a SIM card in them. There will NOT be an ICCID number on the box.
Carrier model = iPhones that do come with a particular carrier's SIM card pre-installed in them. There WILL be an ICCID number on the box.
For the clearance iPhones, Walmart is selling the carrier model iPhone 6/6+ but double check to see if they have a SIM card pre-installed in them to be certain or if there is an ICCID number on the box. If they are Verizon models, they are unlocked out of the box, there is no need to activate them to unlock them. If they are AT&T models, they are locked to AT&T out of the box. To get the AT&T models unlocked, BEFORE you turn them on you can request an unlock from AT&T as a non-AT&T customer https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/#/. If you activate the AT&T models with an active AT&T SIM card before you get the unlock granted, AT&T has been refusing to unlock them until they are active on the AT&T network for a few months.
For the clearance iP6s/6s+, Walmart is selling the SIM free models subject to the US Reseller Flex Policy. That means these phones will follow the unlocking policy of whichever carrier's SIM card is in them for the initial activation. If you use a Verizon postpaid SIM card for the initial activation, the phones will be unlocked. The Verizon postpaid SIM card can be inactive or active, but if it is inactive you will have to do the activation either over WiFi or through iTunes using a computer that is connected to the Internet. The activation requires that your device both send and receive data to/from Apple's activation servers so your device must be connected to the Internet either through cellular data (only possible with an active SIM), through WiFi or through iTunes on a computer connected to the Internet. You can only use a US carrier SIM card to do the initial activation on these phones - they will not activate with an international SIM card. And if you use a Verizon postpaid SIM card, either active or inactive, the devices will be unlocked for both domestic and international use. Do NOT use a Verizon prepaid SIM card for the initial activation because we don't know what will happen if you do - the device could end up locked to Verizon prepaid for 1 year.
You can buy a Verizon postpaid SIM from Best Buy for $5-$10 or from a Verizon Authorized/Premium Retailer for $10-$30.
GSX reports on ebay are 99 cents and those will confirm the unlock status of your device.
----- Some of the Straight Talk iPhone 6 don't have an ICCID on the box and they are locked to ST and cannot be unlocked by a Verizon SIM!!! Buy the GSX report if you want to know for sure -------

Apple Inc. of One Infinite Loop, Cupertino, California, U.S.A. 95014 ("Apple") warrants the Apple-branded iPhone, iPad, iPod or Apple TV hardware product and the Apple-branded accessories contained in the original packaging ("Apple Product") against defects in materials and workmanship when used normally in accordance with Apple's published guidelines for a period of ONE (1) YEAR from the date of original retail purchase by the end-user purchaser ("Warranty Period"). Apple's published guidelines include but are not limited to information contained in technical specifications, user manuals and service communications.
WARRANTY BEGINS FROM THE DATE OF ACTIVATION EXCEPT IN THE RARE INSTANCES WHEN A RESELLER HAS NOT RESOLD THE DEVICE FOR YEARS. THEN THE WARRANTY EXPIRES BEFORE THE DEVICE IS EVEN SOLD BUT THIS CAN BE CORRECTED IF YOU HAVE THE RECEIPT. IT IS RARE BUT IN THE CASE OF THE iPHONE 6/6+ THAT WALMART IS SELLING, THIS COULD HAPPEN TO YOU. KEEP YOUR RECEIPT IF YOU BUY AN iPHONE 6/6+ YOU MAY NEED TO GET A WARRANTY ADJUSTMENT. FOR THE VAST MAJORITY OF PEOPLE, THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE.
