It is down $10 from a couple days ago. Right now there are not a lot of low options, but there have been a few deals lately. The Best Buy Ebay paypal coupon for $105 was slick.

Appears may be limited to one per account.

I just received a notification that there are some 4TB WD Red drives available at the Western Digital student store [wdc.com] for 95.99$. As long as you have a .edu email from a college or university that is on their list you have access to the school store.

I recall that purple is ideal for optimized writing speeds and can record 24/7. Unfortunately I am not sure from experience if red will be 100% ideal.

Here are a couple things to check out:

But for those that already have a NAS with these drives, and are just looking to expand, this is helpful

A solid state drive would be both of those. You probably won't find a hard drive that is quiet and fast at the same time.

Will a 5200 rpm drive be quieter than 7200?

I have Seagate 5 TB pulled from the desktop USB enclosures in my server now and they keep throwing weird errors now and then, I guess it's true what they say that those drives really should not be used as anything but backup drives. May be time to spend a bunch on red soon...Just still shocked that these seagate drives don't work a little better on what is essentially just a media server.
