Just saw this and bit the bullet. If you get two or more, they'll extend an extra 15% off on the total.
The eBay seller has great feedback. Also, FWIW, on my Paypal payment it shows them as being from "Directed.com" (i.e. Python, Viper, Clifford, etc. company).

Some product review links below. It seems like the consensus is that it sounds better than a competing product. It doesn't have bluetooth. Early app issues have been addressed.

Product Overview
Audiophile-grade wireless speaker
The W7 is Definitive Technology's ultra-compact, audiophile-grade
wireless speaker, perfect for those who won't compromise on performance,
even in smaller living spaces. The W7's "Tri-Polar" configuration radiates
sound off of surrounding walls and gives it the unique cube-shape design.
As a result, the soundstage is broad and natural timbre can be heard
throughout a room.
What Obsession Sounds Like
There's a fine line between loving music and being obsessed with it.
When it comes to making music sound the best it can sound, we have a hard
time believing that good enough is acceptable. It has to be flawless. Perfect.
Uncompromising. In short, we think it would be crazy to give music anything
less than everything it deserves.

FWIW.

To sum it up, go with Sonos if you want the most choices for music or if you have more than 5 of these units throughout the house. Choose Definitive Technology if you want the BEST sound quality and if you like being able to control your music without having to wake up your devices constantly.

To say the W7 sounded superior would be a gross understatement. The W7 sonically devastated the Play:5, trouncing it in low-end and midrange clarity and high-frequency detail.
Do your homework!
Do your homework!
You can cross shop and do all the homework you want, most reviews are very one sided because they only have experience with one system (like me). I can't speak of Definitive Technology since I have no experience with them. I do have experience with the Sonos system though. I was never a fan of the Play 1 but from what I have read you need them in a pair or in the center of a room so the sound isn't bouncing off of walls. Since I don't have any experience other than having 1 Play 1 sitting in the corner of my office I can honestly say I am not thrilled with the sound. Great for talk radio, but in my opinion it's not a music speaker, at least by itself. Same as the soundbar. I have to assume that with the sub it would sound much better, but without it music is tinny and there isn't much depth. Most of my Sonos equipment are Sonos Amps so I can add my own speakers and still have the luxury of using the software. With Sonos you are paying for the software as much as you are paying for the hardware. The app is clean, easy to use and is constantly being updated. The ability to have different zones and different music services playing in each zone is a nice luxury, and to have everything married into one clean app...that's what makes Sonos worth the money. I can have an Audiobook playing in the kitchen from Audible, have Stern playing in my office from Sirius/XM and have Jimmy Buffet playing in the backyard through iTunes all through the same system and app.
Judging by the reviews this looks like it is a decent system and I'm sure you wouldn't have gotten the thumbs down if you didn't compare it to Sonos or triggered users Sonos alerts.

I was speaking of my own experience trying to find a good system -- and that's what i compared it to. Lesson learned about posting comparisons.
I just received my pair of W7's. The app is a little clunky IMHO, but the audio more than makes up for it. I completely agree with your assessment about making these types of speakers a pair... it just sounds so much better than by itself.
PS: Everyone is complaining about the app, but most of my music listening is with Spotify and there you can use the speaker within Spotify's app. It's just Amazon music etc where you need to deal with their app and honestly it's not much different than sonos app.

Interestingly, the reason i ended up with this is because i was looking at a Sony Micro-HiFi system at first, but everyone complained of its lower-than-normal volume. For the same price, this thing is a bargain IMHO.
That said, I have a pair and it sounds wonderful at home. App-wise, it's not the prettiest but it's stable. My only gripe is with Amazon Music... it only plays music i already own, so Prime Music is out unless i pay for Music Unlimited. Otherwise, Pandora and SirusXM works nicely. Thanks for the tip on Spotify, I'll give that service a try.
Thanks, OP. I'm going to bypass PlayFi and pair this with a Chromecast Audio. Adds a fantastic compact speaker to my Chromecast group.
