Yes, they do verify your identity. They took my Driver's license AND they did a thumb print scan! (THIS IS BEING DONE TO PREVENT THEFT OF LAPTOPS) - varies by location

The $75 coupon for a Samsung 9 pro is limited to 1 per purchase. You MUST buy the Samsung model laptop to qualify for the full $75 GC. Otherwise, your GC will be only up to $50 towards the purchase of anything else. Ultimately the GC will vary based the BB trade in utility located here: https://tradein.bestbuy.com/client/#/catalog . YMMV

Before loading any OS's over your current one, check that your unit will qualify with said OS. Go through the online tradein tool

With 'other' OS being acceptable if you already have one of the listed brand computers, try installing a free version of Linux, like Lubuntu
http://lubuntu.net/
and to create a boot disk / USB drive
https://sourceforge.net/projects/unetbootin/

If your brand is 'other', then it's harder to meet the minimum requirements and you might be better off trying to reinstall your original Windows OS.

windows OS images you can download and install (should match what is already installed on your laptop)
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/s...-download/

Windows 8+ has your product key baked into the BIOS/registered in the cloud with microsoft. There is no check of a key for the download of windows 8+

For windows 7 you need the product key on the bottom of your laptop/behind your battery.

You should be restoring from recovery disks or from the hard disk partition. Refer to your owners manually but normally you can hit esc at startup and be given a list of boot options, sometimes one of the options is recovery. otherwise you can keep tapping F1 - F12 when starting the PC and hope it boots into the recovery partition.

Before wiping, in case you need to pull the Windows license that is on the current install (in case it's different from the sticker on the laptop or the sticker is smudged/faded/destroyed), use ProduKey

The 2nd $75 is a coupon for the Samsung Notebook 9 Pro tablet/laptop.

So, if you want that specific product, you get $150. Otherwise, you get $75 and a $75 coupon for the trashcan.

Called my local BB and the Geek Squad agent confirmed no battery required as long as you have the power cable to prove it still works, they can also pull out the hard drive for you at no additional charge so you can Dispose of on your own

Yup! It looks like even an intel atom netbook with windows 7 starter would work as long as it boots and doesn't have any damage!

Looks like the coupon can only be used towards the Samsung Notebook Pro 9, but if you're getting one of those it does seem like $150 off it.

Time to go dig up some laptops rotting in my garage.

Even if you pick "Poor" and include power supply, it gives $75

Sanity check: If I have two crappy working laptops to turn in, can I get $150? 3, $225? I can strip RAM and hard drives?

Doesn't appear so. I tried "Other OS" as the option (I have an old Linux junker), and it adjusted the promo trade in credit so I still got $75 total trade in credit.

It says limit 1 trade in per person. I'm gonna go in with my wife so we can do two. If I have more that it seems worth it, I'll see if I can drag her parents along.
