WARNING: While these phones were initially, mistakenly, shipped as totally unlocked, as of 7/18/17 Verizon and Apple have figured out the mistake and are locking them down so they can only be used with a Verizon pre-paid plan. They are even going back and locking down phones that were already activated on other carriers or plans. The second sentence is NOT true; not a singe report of this happening as of yet.

If you have an unopened phone from this "deal" return it to BestBuy, preferably unopened. You will not be able to activate it on anything but a Verizon pre-paid plan from 7/18/17 forward. And even if you activated it earlier, you stand a good chance of having your phone shut down subsequently.

Opened one of these up to get answers for myself..

First activation with an active T Mobile SIM. Activated zero problems.

Reset and restarted with the prepaid Verizon SIM it came with. Went through set up no problem but the SIM card did not activate as such. SIM card showed as Not Provisioned but in such a scenario it is as good as unlocked for use on Verizon. If I called customer service they would activate it. Possibly, had I left it a little longer it may have activated itself? Either way it still goes through the set up process. With a locked phone you won't get through set up.

Reset and ran through it again with the same Verizon SIM. No problem. Popped out Verizon SIM and put in T Mobile SIM. No problem. Put in an inactive ATT SIM. Not provisioned again but no sign of the phone being locked. Took that out and put in the Verizon SIM again. This time I got a VERIZON signal but then the word Verizon disappeared from the network signal. Again, no big deal. Had the phone been locked I would have received messages telling me the SIMs were invalid.

Reset the phone again. Activated with an ACTIVE ATT SIM. No problem. Switched out ATT SIM for T Mobile. No problem.

Submitted four IMEIs to the ATT Unlock page for further confirmation. Got four CONGRATULATIONS your phone has been unlocked emails about 5 minutes later.

Had a GSX report done before opening the box and another after running through all the SIMs after opening. UNLOCKED will only turn to TRUE after activation.

Did you have to pop in a different SIM first? Can I just pop in my SIM from my iPhone 6 and be good to go?

Nope. Popped in my sim directly from my LG V20.

This comes with a prepaid SIM card on the outside of the package but I didn't fool with that.

Please confirm. Can I pop in a T-Mobile sim and then the iPhone SE is locked to T-Mobile? Will upgrade the iOS and rebooting be a problem in the future? Will the phone go back to Verizon lock?

Yes, but if you put in a Verizon(Post Paid) sim in first, it will be unlocked.

Verizon(POST PAID) doesn't lock phones. If you put a verizon (POST PAID) sim in it first. The phone will be unlocked. If you put another sim in it first, it will lock to that carrier. So if you put a T-Mobile sim in it will lock to T-Mobile until you get Tmobile to unlock it.
