It is true! If you have about 5 promos or more than 20 dollars in credit you get quoted an extra 20 percent on average between normal and surge pricing.. I compared it with 2 different phones/accounts hailing a ride to and from same place! The phone/account with no promos and also with very little ride activity gets quoted much lower price per ride especially when comparing Uber pool or Lyft line price difference!

and they beg you to come back with in app promos or offers to buying flat rate ride vouchers offers.

Both Uber and Lyft seem to do this... ridiculous.

I'm not sure you'll get the 2% with the Chase shopping portal as gift cards are almost always excluded.
