Is this router better than the standard one time warner gives you? I've seen this model before on prime day and I didn't pull the trigger
YES. If you've ever had issues with your router resetting for no reason, or needing to reboot the router to solve connection issues, you definitely need to upgrade to a dual-band like this one. The problem with default routers is they are not really made to handle lots of connections to multiple devices.

Keep in mind this is the ROUTER only, so you'll still need to buy a modem or use your provider's modem in combination with this router.

I have 2 of these routers, r7500V2. They are only different from the r7800 or x4s by only a 2.4 GHz radio chip.
In addition to the upgraded 2.4GHz radio, the R7800 has a faster CPU and newer 802.11ac radios with support for 160MHz channels.

Here's a detailed review:

I was going to pull the trigger but it seems marginal for a high end router. Then there's the hassle of v1 vs. v2 versions...

edit: Amazon calls out that it is v2 (good.)

Kind of? It's one step up. if you are going to upgrade, you might as well take two or three leaps forward to future-proof yourself - Take a look at the new R8000P, getting great reviews, but it's full price because it's new.

Not really. Unless you have so many devices use 5Ghz and have a fast internet connection.

Hey guys, I just bought a Linksys AC1750 from Best Buy for the same price. Should I return it and buy this?

The one I have

I have FIOS Gigabit, and I use the Verizon Router. I am needing more range and simply more out of it. I have Smart Things, and Hue Hubs that slow everything down.

Would anyone suggest grabbing this and using it as the router and just using the verison router as a modem? Would it improve range and speed?

If you want a better router sure.

It's a subjective question without details

Not unless you have so many devices that are choking your router and you need that extra bandwidth.

I personally wouldn't touch a refurbished router no matter how good the price. Not worth the hassle of having a router with questionable antenna and performance.
