I hope you are doing well.
Deal site FatWallet (FW) will soon be shutting down. On 09/20/2017, founder Tim Storm - who sold and left FW in 2011 - announced on his Facebook page that FW will be shutting down. I had written a thread then, but decided not to post it until the news became official. On 09/22/2017, an FW general manager confirmed the news; a timeline has yet to be announced.
I know many SD members either were FW members or are still concurrent FW members. Please feel free to share your thoughts regarding this news.
If anyone who just arrived from FW reads this, I'd like to welcome you to SD.
14 years ago, I joined SD on 09/13/2003, and several hours later, I joined FW on 09/14/2003. (I actually had an SD account that is years older than that, but I can no longer remember it.) Both FW and SD have been major parts of my life. I was actually much more active on FW until I jumped ship to SD in 2009.
Slickdeals rules note: FW is or was a major competitor to Slickdeals, so I'm not certain if this thread is allowed. However, I suppose if FW is shutting down, it doesn't really matter. A moderator may remove this thread if he or she sees it, of course. Thank you.

Their biggest issues have been that they do not react to the community's opinions often enough, which is something I hope Slickdeals can learn from.

I was always aware of slickdeals but since I was used to FW, I never really checked it out.
While sad FW is gone, I am now looking forward to becoming a sd contributor.
Sadly, SD seems to have become more commercialized -- maybe that's necessary in order to survive, but neither site seemed to retained it's non-commercialized / grassroots personalities that made them both so popular back in the early 2000s.
