Just incase you didn't know, a 100% silk tie is a 100% silk tie regardless of manufacture. There aren't really features to them like there are for nice socks, pants, jackets, watches, ect.. Ties are ties are ties, and are 100% asthetic. Good looking pattern 100% Silk ties can be had on Ebay and even Amazon for about $3/tie..

I love my high quality apparel and items, and am a firm believer in 'buy once, cry once' but there are times when your paying for quality, and others when your paying for brand. Ties are always for brand assuming equal patterns
I have to 100% disagree. There are several different types of silks which vary depending on brand and sometimes even within the same brand. It effects the look and more importantly how the knot comes out (which I guess is also the look).

Having said that I don't have experience with Jos A Bank ties, but I'm fairly confident they are better than the $3 ties you'll get on the bay (basing this on other Jos A stuff I own).

Thanks and repped for the post OP. Bought a bunch Smilie

While I'm no expert, a post like this would get crucified on Styleforums or AskAndy. As gabe said, there are varying qualities of silk fabric. In addition, there are differences in cut, construction, and the presence and quality of the interlining. The construction, for example, includes its stitching, which in turn affects the tie's resilience.

There are also matters of preference, which don't necessarily speak to the tie's quality, such as the number of folds, thickness, tipping, and overall shape.

That's not to say that these ties are terrible, as I don't know own any Jos A Bank, but there are notable qualitative differences as you move up the price scale.

Somebody has no idea what they're talking about. Interlining is a thing and can be made of different materials. I hope you don't think all 100% wool suits are the same as well.

That said, I bought 6 to try and will return the ones I don't like.

I actually sampled some $3 tie. They are not silk, period. If you really want a $3 tie, go to Salvation Army or Goodwill; that's your best bet. Else, This $9.99 is as good as deal goes on a decent tie.

Horrifying website. Wish I had never seen this deal.

One tie looked blue. The color listed on the page was purple. Add it to cart, and it adds a purple version of the tie. The blue one is...nowhere? No idea. Why is the main image blue, with no blue option for the product? (It's not sold out, either -- see below)

When I tried to remove the tie from the shopping bag, the system hung. I found another way to delete the tie...and it deleted a different tie from the shopping bag.

On a different page, there were four colors. Ones that are out of stock are still clickable. You have to try to add it to see it is unavailable.

Some actions cause a 'One Moment Please' popup to appear...that never goes away.

Shipping for one tie is $8.

Signed up for their stupid rewards club. Got to the three stage checkout page, and it wouldn't go past page one.

Session timed out, logged back in, now the ties are different prices -- $12.50 and $16, despite still being $9.99 on the store's page.

Switched browsers. Repeated the whole process. Found the two ties (both listed as 9.99) and added them, logged in again, started checkout.

As soon as I get to the checkout screen, the ties are now $12.50 and $16 again.

Deleted the $16 tie, went with the $12.50. Finally got through after using PayPal since there's no way in hell I'd give these clowns a credit card.

I wish I had given up at the first sign of trouble, since this was an absolutely infuriating experience. Would have bought three ties, too, but ended up with one. Hope it's worth it.

All you had to do is buy 6 and return the ones you don't like in store.
