Bottlehead Crack + Speedball OTL Amplifier is available for $299. Select Bottlehead Crack for $199 and add the Speedball upgrade for $100. Regular price for Speedball is $125 (total $399). https://bottlehead.com/?product=c...lifier-kit
This is one of the best amplifiers available for high impedance headphones (>250 ohms). Perfect for those who bought the Sennheiser HD600 and HD650 in recent deals. This is a DIY kit and requires assembly and basic soldering for the Speedball.
Good deal on a great headphone amp. Looks like the Bottlehead Crack goes on sale once or twice a year for this price, so get it now or wait at least 6 more months.
Pair this with an HD700 and calibration file from Sonarworks, and you have a system that can rival an HD800 + HDVD800 or HDVA600 for less than half the price.
I have both setups: HD800 + HDVA600 + Wyred4Sound DAC2 and HD700 + Bottlehead Crack + HRT Music Streamer II DAC
Both are run with calibration files specific to each headphone set in Sonarworks Systemwide (this REALLY elevates the purity of both sets)
With the Sonarworks calibration, the sets are extremely similar. HD800 setup has the edge, of course, with a slightly more detailed (close to perfect) sound stage.
However, the HD700 setup, when properly calibrated using Sonarworks, has a fantastic sound stage, vastly superior to the HD650 or HD600, and comes close to that of the HD800.
Without the Sonarworks calibration, the HD700 is probably not quite preferred over the HD650 or HD600.
With the Sonarworks calibration, the HD700 is a steal when paired with the Bottlehead Crack. Close to perfection sound at less than half the price of a typical HD800 setup.
