Just found this offer when logged into my Amex Everyday card account.

Spend $99+, get 5,000 Membership Rewards® Points

Get 5,000 additional Membership Rewards® points one-time by using your enrolled Card to spend $99+ on an annual Amazon Prime membership at Amazon.com by 1/31/2018. See terms for exclusions

Doesn't stipulate new membership so hoping good for renewal, too.

Searched but didn't see it. Apologies if repost.

If you prefer cashing out your points, its best if you just get an AMEX Schwab Platinum after pooling your desired number of points. The redemption to a Schwab account is 1.25cpp which works out to $62.50 for 5000 points.

I wouldn't try this. Amazon Prime Membership is coded differently from regular Amazon purchases. I noticed this when my Amazon Prime Renewal did not qualify for 5% off Discover's Amazon spending category.

I've never paid attention to whether my Prime membership came through on my card differently than normal Amazon purchases. Will have to check, now......

Yes, this seems to be the way to go. I think it will work. When you gift $99 Prime it shows in cart as "Sold by: Amazon Services, Inc."

but if you exchange for regular amazon gc, won't you lose the tax that is paid on the membership and does amazon have any rules on buying this and using it for yourself?
