I picked up the phone at the Sprint Store, came back to my house and called CS, they then transferred me to account services. Told them i wanted to get the total to end the lease now and own the phone. Total was $130.64 after tax.
So I paid $157.20 total with tax for the device, tomorrow i will call and cancel the new line and i own the phone outright.
Pictures[imgur.com] of the payment and how it looks under my account before and after.
By the way guys, remember to report back in this thread after you've had the phone on service for 50 days and report whether or not it got unlocked.
It'll be a long time 'til then, but don't forget!
The phone will NOT auto unlock on the 50th or the 51st day or any day after those days.
You MUST call Sprint customer service and request an unlock. You'll get it a couple of days later. Make sure you get a confirmation # when you make the unlock request.

Yeah that's what I meant. After 50 days, people here should report how requesting an unlock goes so we have good data points.
Help please! I had ours working with Verizon. Followed all the steps and it worked perfectly. However, cracked up the phone. Got a new one via warranty. Any thoughts on how to get the new one (via warranty) unlocked, so that I can use with Verizon again? I still have the Sprint account (for now). On Ting, it still says it has not reached financial eligibility. That message changed for the 1st phone when I paid off the lease. No lease to pay off this time, so what can I do? Thanks for any help!!
I just got the phone today and immediately paid it off.
The rep said it was now free to go to any sprint line.
I called telesales to try to bring it to BYOD. The guy there seemed to think that I could not because it was still associated with the paid line. I am planning to stay on BYOD for more than 50 days, so unlocking is not my problem for now, but I am having trouble getting on to BYOD.
Wondering which of the following is most likely to work.
1- Swap in another phone on the paid plan to free up the Essential
2- Cancel the paid line (my fear is that I won't be able to get it on to the BYOD line, and without it being unlocked, I am basically stuck with a brick. Honestly, even with it unlocked, I really want to get on the free BYOD plan, so that's the end game here).
3- Start up the BYOD plan with another phone, and then try to swap the essential in for that phone
4- Start up the BYOD plan with another phone and then try to add the essential in as a new line.
Any thoughts, macrokelvin or anyone else who has accomplished this or something like it?
Thanks!
I think the reason why you can't use the Essential on the BYOD 1-year account is because it is still active on the original account. It has to be deactivated from the original account because you cannot have a device actives on two different Sprint accounts. There are multiple ways to deactivate it from the original account, depending on how you plan to cancel/close the original account. Regardless of how you plan to cancel/close the original account, I would replace the Essential IMEI with a dummy IMEI (as I have posted several times) before you cancel/close the original account to minimize the risk of the Essential IMEI getting blacklisted.
received phone today. I use upgrade option to get EP phone and prefer not to activate for at least another 5-6 days due to time constraints and holidays since i will be out of town and don't want my existing phone to be disabled/swapped
Can i pay off the lease without activating the phone? Any info will be greatly appreciated.
My universally unlocked moto G5+, which has served as placeholder back and forth between my and wifey's accounts, now triggers a BYOD>>>$60/mo change when trying to put it back onto another G5+ line on BYOD. And ironically to its original Sprint account. Its been 5 days since pulling out of service.
That did not happen in previous swaps. And Ting + sprint BYOD checkers are all clear. Given this change, don't want to "chat" swap this time??? Wasn't expecting to have to move this walmart non carrier phone through TMO-pp or TW to "clean" it when I did not have to do such before. . .

Thanks. It has been hard to keep up with this thread for so long- especially with all of the discussions about other issues like the camera- so I missed your posts on that suggestion.
Should I be concerned that the Ting checker is showing the phone as FED ineligible?
And should I get the unlock code before I take the phone off the account, or does it not matter since I am taking it to Sprint anyway?

I have seen the posts regarding the dummy imei. What I am wondering is the sprint support side of that plan. I have never called to do that ever, and I have a feeling customer support will have no idea what I want to do. How does that phone call usually go?
I am getting a ups package from bright star. I hope it is the camera. I registered for it on Dec 15 even though I bought and cancelled both the lines before the promo period started. I could not believe they shipped the camera. 🎉

That's wild. I registered the same day and I haven't heard anything. Just got a confirmation email stating I registered for it.
