The major differences off the top of my head are:
  • The keys on the II are "mem-chanical," whereas the keys on the 3 are membrane.
    • The II's men-chanical keys imitate mechanical keyboard keys, which many gamers prefer. The downside is that both mechanical and mem-chanical keys are loud and clicky.
    • The 3's keys are membrane, and therefore, are quiet.
  • The II keyboards were released in three color variants: blue, red, and green, which meant you had to select one color to buy and you'd be stuck with it. With the 3, there is only one keyboard, and you can adjust it on-the-fly to 7 different colors.
  • The II keyboard has a "scroll lock issue," in that if the Scroll Lock key is on, the backlights are on, and if the Scroll Lock key is off, the backlights are off. This issue has been fixed in the 3 keyboard.
I hope this helps,

Thanks Tofu Vic. It sounds like the 3 is the better choice ...if you don't mind the $5-10 higher cost.

I personally prefer mechanical keyboards; I'm currently using a Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Stealth with Orange Switches [amazon.com] at home. I am buying a Devastator 3 because I want a membrane keyboard to use at work.

I inquired with Cooler Master by calling them a couple days ago, and was told that the Devastator 3 is as quiet as other membrane keyboards, and its sound is appropriate for office usage, unlike the Devastator II.

I am using Devastator 2 right now and the keys are not loud at all. There is no click sound and very low bottom out noise. The biggest noise comes from switches being loose which I can produce by tapping the keys without pressing it. It also didn't feel like mechanical switches (or maybe it is more like brown which I don't own) at all.

So unless I bought a fake keyboard this is not what I experienced.

I️ had one of the previous versions and it was terrible. The lights completely went out and some of the keys stopped working. I️ don't know if this one is improved but I'd be weary of purchasing. Personally I'd never buy any version of this keyboard again

Don't forget the III fixed the scroll lock issue from the II.

I just bought the 2 from a frontpage deal a few days ago for my son. I think he'll enjoy the different colors more so I'm in for another one. I'll just keep the devastator 2 combo for the office or something.

The Devastator 2 has one major flaw. The scroll lock keys is how you turn the light on or off. When in Excel you could move around with the lights on so annoying. Does anyone know if they fixed this yet?

I believe, they are both plungers, the IIIrd one, being "mem-chanical" plunger is a glorified plunger, and therefore costs $5 more.
