I've had the Farberware airfryer from walmart for almost a year now and I use it to cook for two people almost everyday. I'll run down some things I've cooked that turn out great in the airfryer...some obvious and some not so much. But first, basically folks are correct in saying airfryers are more like a convection oven (on steroids) than they are a fryer. Even though it's called a "fryer", Imo the one thing the Farberare doesn't do well is fry raw breaded/battered things. It can be done but the results can be hit or miss.

I cook mostly frozen things including various styles of potato fries, tots, hash brown patties, and sweet potato fries and imo they all actually turn out better than deep frying in oil. Note: fresh potato fries are more involved, as you must soak the fries in water and dry them fully (to remove starch) before cooking. You'd want to do this before oil frying to but it's a critical step with the airfryer.

Just about anything that comes frozen and pre-breaded such as chicken nuggets, strips, etc. and frozen breaded fish products yield good results. Frozen onion rings are great. Frozen egg rolls , pizza rolls, breaded frozen fried cheese, burritos, and similar type items come out nicely also.

Less obvious things that turn out great in the airfryer:
Uncooked bacon, breakfast sausage patties, and sausage links. Added bonus is the grease drips away while it cooks and doesn't smoke up the house as the outer bottom pot doesn't get direct heat.

Fattier pieces of fresh raw chicken such as wings, legs, and thighs cooked with a dry rub or marinade instead of a breading/batter (think almost bbq'd or roasted chicken)

Small individual frozen pizzas work well in the a/f to.

Raw hamburgers, steaks, and chops turn out good also. Size is an issue when doing bigger cuts as the basket is not very big. Plus if it's a thick cut, getting it done inside without over browning could be an issue.

Frozen raw biscuits are fantastic as well. I use the Grands and they rise like crazy due to the velocity and temp of the air.

It's also great for re-heating items the next day such as bone-in or boneless restaurant fried chicken pieces (popeyes, kfc etc) .

Another thing is from start to finish the a/f is a big time saver as I can usually be done cooking most items before my large wall oven would even be finished preheating. Most of the time i don't even have to preheat the a/f as it blows 400* air right from the start(I leave it on 400 for most items). Most things are cooked to my taste in about 15 minutes or less start to finish.

Wow...sorry for the long post. I'm hungry now for some reason Smilie
Not a FAD. I have one and it works amazing. Its good to know you arent eating oil soaked garbage when induldging in fries, empanadas, or chicken.
You're both right, although Tony is righter. Wink

Don't forget that the fries are pre-cooked in oil. You're just not infusing them with MORE oil.

I think the point is...if you already have a convection oven, don't bother with one of these. If you think it's going to be more like a fryer than an oven, you'll be disappointed.

Amazon sells this brand if you want to read reviews on their other models. Search for Gourmia Air Fryer.

How much food does the 4.5 qt actually fit, anyone have a ballpark? I have a family of four. Can I throw some fries and corn dogs in here or would it be more like fries OR corn dogs?

I have the 2500 model it's pretty cool I use it a lot although the $150 price at bestbuy is not a sale price for this model. I got mine from Kohls where I was able to stack several coupons.

You can't air fry battered foods.

They're convection ovens with a higher than normal air flow.
It felt like I was cooking with my hair dryer. Tried it about 8 times with fresh fish, battered and not battered. Result was very crispy but my fillets were shrunk in half. Went back to deep fryer and recycling the oil after half a dozen frying.
