I won't use the word refurbished for this unit. If you are ok with $800 for non-brand new laptop, go for the factory refurbished Surface Book on Microsoft store for $749. That is factory checked and reconditioned by the manufacturer and you can return to Microsoft store for full refund.

No tax or fees in CA makes Amazon deal pretty good. $862+$100 gift card is price for me at Newegg. I already have 2 of these and considering another for a family member. Excellent screen, battery life and the detachable screen is great for reading and taking notes.

fingers crossed for a similar deal for the next level up, but jeez this is hard to resist!
Also, I realize that I won't be able to walk into a BB or Staples and play with it to see if I like it, but is there a comparable/newer model out now that might be on display somewhere? I got a blazing hot deal on Geek Squad Certified 15" HP from best buy last week and as soon as I took it out of the box I knew it wasn't what I needed (portability and battery life being the main necessities). Normally I wouldn't buy before looking, but I knew it was gonna sell out quick (and it did).
Apologies for asking such a random question, but since there's a few people who've posted positive reviews, I figure I'd throw it out there and see if someone knows.
