GOTY addition just gives you some free loot boxes and a few unique skins.

If you don't know what loot boxes are, they contain skins, emotes, poses, etc that have no affect on the actual game. However they are fun to collect and use in the game itself.
It's nothing like COD. It's more of a strategic team based type of game, where each class/character does something to help, in order to win. If you have too many of the same classes, you'll more than likely lose.
If you try the free weekend and like it, I would recommend getting the GoTY edition. If you play any other blizzard games, it come with a few in game items for those as well.

There are plenty of skins available within the game that you can unlock with coins that you earn as you play. Some skins are seasonal and you can only purchase them during events held around that time of the year (i.e Halloween skins available during a 2 week Halloween event). The skins that come with the GoTY edition are some of the only skins so far that you can't acquire within the game (attending Blizzcon for a special Blizzcon skin is an example of another). When i bought the game, I didn't care about skins so I went with the standard edition. I eventually started to like the idea of changing how my characters look and would I have known this sooner, I would have gone with the GoTY edition instead since now I play a few of those characters often.

To clarify, skins are for aesthetic purposes only and do not add any bonuses to your game play. Its like in a board game, sometimes you want to be the green pieces instead of orange.

Free to play this weekend.

Make sure you're cool with the all the trash-talking salty 6th graders before sinking in your cash.

It's essentially a mix of COD and a MOBA game with cartoon characters. All characters have a different skill set that you have to use in addition to the gunfighting you would do. I'd recommend trying it out for free over the weekend, can be loads of fun.

Much closer to Team Fortress 2 than COD. Only real similarities between COD and Overwatch are pretty much generic across all multiplayer first person shooters in that they're multiplayer, have a first person perspective, and have guns.

I also dislike TF2 but really enjoy Overwatch, so if you dislike TF2 don't let it put you off the free weekend.

Good game for the price, even if you never played a FPS before.
