According to Tyll Hertsens from Inner|Fidelity, except for a fancy paint job, these are pretty much identical to the HD650 model, which is rarely on sale below $300.

The Sennheiser deal is available again after months. Last time it was very popular and received over 200+ thumbs up. Those who don't know these are almost identical to HD 650 model which runs for quite more. I already ordered one at last drop and being delivered in December, so it will be quite a wait but worth it if your patient.

Thanks for the heads up. Just a warning though... The HD660S is dropping soon. MSRP is $500 I believe. Possibly a slight upgrade, but not worth $300 more than this I'm sure.

Just my $.02 on this for newbies on the fence about this drop. This is an excellent deal on some really superior headphones. They are well worth the money, and are a substantial upgrade to Senn's lower-priced headphones. I have more than a dozen high-end headphones, including expensive planar magnetics. Senn's HD650 is my second or third favorite, depending on my mood. Senn's HD600 is my second, third, or fourth favorite depending on my mood. So whether you get a rebadged HD650 or a rebadged HD600, you'll be getting something really great.

In case anyone is wondering, my top two favorite cans for most music and moods are Sennheiser's amazing HD800, and Beyerdynamics' DT990.

Some people have suggested Senn's HD650 clamps tight. I have a big head and I haven't found any of Senn's headphones to be uncomfortable. The HD800s are a bit more spacious on the head, but they are also at least $800 more than this set.

Some people have been asking about headphone amps and DACs. You can go crazy with the options, and you can spend a lot of money. I would suggest that people just starting out with the high-end headphone thing start with the cheap and excellent FiiO E10K combined DAC/headphone amp, about $75: https://www.amazon.com/FiiO-E10K-...=fiio+e10k.

Plug this into your system's USB port, and you're done. For 99% of users it is more than enough power and capability in a DAC/amp combo. You can upgrade to something else if you ever want to. Honestly, at this level of quality, the differences start to be like the difference between a 12-year old bottle of excellent scotch ($60) and a 25 year old bottle of excellent scotch ($200). There are differences, and a really trained palette will notice and appreciate those differences, but it's hard to say whether the $200 bottle is truly "better." It's just different. For the record, my regular DAC/amp is a solid-state Apogee Groove which costs quite a bit more than FiiO's E10K, which I also own. I'm hard-pressed to say the more expensive unit is truly better in terms of sound quality.

The 6XX has a lower THD than the 650. That's a good thing. As in better.

Oh please, Yamaha has been making beryllium speakers since the 1970s. Stop your nonsense.

I don't know much about that model. Currently just waiting for these to arrive in December since I placed my order back in June. Hopefully, a good amp will go FrontPage.

I ordered and have been trying to research amps. Any recommendations?

The wait time on these will also be much less.
According to this post:
"As for the exciting announcement, remember how I said the the long lead time on this 6XX drop comes from Sennheiser's parts suppliers? Well, maybe they felt bad about the shorter cables taking 6 months, maybe it worked out better for their costs, or maybe it worked better for Sennheiser's costs (at the end of the day we don't know why) but they provided parts for 25,000 units instead of the ~20,400 we ordered in June.

What does this mean? It means we've got an extra 4500 units going into production that will arrive in time for delivery by Christmas!"

So good news for people that are not wanting to wait upwards of a year for these cans.

The Schiit Amp few weeks ago on Amazon was a good deal but I missed out as I was at work. Go with a Fiio A3. Might be around $60 on eBay.

If you want this order it now. They have only 4.5K units for this drop and it is already at 800+.

That was just an Amp though correct? Do I need one with a DAC? I was looking at the JDSLABS Objective2 + ODAC or the Element however I'm not sure I want to spend another $300

If you have the funds and an interest in soldering, the bottlehead crack + speedball upgrade was made for this headphone.

So I am thinking of finally making a jump up from my AKG Q701 and Sennheiser HD 598 and get in on this drop.
I take it an amp is a must. I have a FiiO E11k, which I have never even opened yet, would that suffice for these?

Now I see they have the AKG K7XX for drop, and am torn.
As I said above, I have both step down models, the Q701 and HD598. I like the sound of the Q701 more, but the the build of the Sennheiser's are much better.

Anybody have any experience comparing AKG and Sennheiser mid-range models?

the akg k7xxx have been a drop for a long time. $200 is normal price for k7xx. $200 is a ridiculous sale price for hd6xx (hd650). go with the hd6xx any day.
