Would it work on the forehead and be accurate?
I use mine (Harbor Freight model) to spot-check my kids, but I shoot it into their agape mouths. It is normally within half a degree of the oral thermometer and much faster. Obviously this is easier on older children; for babies I don't think you'll be able to get much insight given how often their mouths are open.

Unfortunately I have never gotten an accurate temperature off a forehead (don't forget to turn off the laser if you try). Mine seems to have too low a resolution to read only over the arteries. These may be better, especially the one that averages.

Also, parenting tip, keep around a cheap thermometer that reads low so you can convince the children they are okay - for some reason every Walgreens thermometer I've bought is this way. (See, not sick, you're just cold - now quit whining and go to school. Or even if they're really feverish 100 makes them rest easier than 101.5. Smilie
