Oh, I know it's not the flu. Not that bad at all. Just hoping it's only a cold and not a sinus infection. Do feel a little better today.
I do, now I just feel like I am getting over a cold. AND I took a shower. I was tired of DH telling me "smell ya later." Roll

Do any of you give your baby vitamins? At Alexa's 1 month appt. today the doctor told me that I need to start giving her baby vitamins now that she's a month old. She's perfectly healthy and gaining weight well. I exclusively breast feed and I guess I thought she'd get all she needed from me Confused I've never heard of this before but then again I'm a first-time mom so maybe I'm just uneducated.

My pediatrician said she should get everything she needs from me... except Vitamin D. (Which I've also read is a big immune system boost and has shown to help prevent swine flu.) Anyway, he gave me a few options where I could find that, but suggested I get Carlson's drops. They're his favorite because they don't have a bunch of other vitamins and such with them, they're just pure Vitamin D. It's a special baby formula, I put a drop on my nipple before she starts to eat once a day. I know they have them at Whole Foods.

I got the same Vitamin D talk by my doc. Picked up some...made by Enfamil...but then stopped giving it to him since I was exclusively BFed as an infant and Mini was exclusively BF and we were healthy babies, children, etc. The formula companies hit up ped docs hard.

Dontknow

I just didn't feel comfortable giving it to him.

I feel comfortable that he's not recommending it just because drug reps are pushing him. He's a younger guy and I can tell by talking to him that he's really up on new developments, etc.

Besides, isn't vitamin D made by us from sunlight, you can't really get enough in your diet? So that makes sense that babies would need a supplement being they're not supposed to be out in the sun much... and with the rain and cool weather we've been having lately I really haven't had Maddy out in the sun at all.

My DS#2 just lost BOTH of his front upper teeth tonite. He lost the 2 lower a long time ago, so long that the perms are already in and perfect, losing these 2 though you woulda thought he was losing both his arms. IDK how long it will take for the perms to come thru but I'm hoping to wait til xmas, so we can do the All I want for xmas is my...

DD#5 is filling out and getting close to being back to her birth weight, she lost 14 oz over 2 days and took until she was 5 days to start putting it back on. I was slow to produce my milk supply so I got these herbal supplements called Fenugreek, I'm taking 3 HUGE capsles 3 times a day. So far they are working great, Apperently I NO LONGER have eyes for DH to look at when talking to me. Althought I might help the situation if I actually wore a shirt There is a funky side-effect to taking the pills though. When I sweat, it smells like maple syrup, FOR REALS!!! I do not have a smelly scent for my bo anymore, I actually smell like pancakes!

BF I was eating lots of granola in the beginning and that helped with production. After last week being sick, taking flu meds and the baby sleeping more and eating less my production was way down. I had to supplement 2 formula bottles between Sat night and Sun(had to throw out all previously pumped milk because that was when I was eating dairy). I started "More Milk" tincture (fenugreek, nettle and a couple other herbs that I can't remember at the moment) on Sun night and my production is back up better than before. And I just noticed that sweet maple-y smell yesterday. I instantly craved waffles! Teehee

Cute! I was going to have Maddy be a flower, too. But couldn't find a costume I liked in her size for a price I wanted to pay (Lillian's is very much what I was looking for). So, I got her a caterpillar costume instead. The puppies are a bee and a lady bug so she still 'goes' with them. Smilie

Thanks for the responses about the vitamins. I'm glad to hear others have used them. I guess I'll try the out and if she doesn't totally hate them, I'll stick with them.

I think the only argument against vitamins is that they aren't necessary. I can't imagine anyone saying they would be a negative thing. Most vitamins are water soluable so you can't get too many. Your body uses what it needs and you just pee the rest out. You can only get too many fat soluable vitamins (A, D, E and K) and I doubt a baby vitamin would have huge doses of those. For example, I just looked up vitamin D. An adult male needs 400iu a day. Overdose has been observed as low as 77,000iu a day but acute overdose requires at least 600,000iu a day, every day. So even with my 2,000iu pills I take, I'd have to take a whole bottle a day to overdose.
