I used Priceline to book hotels frequently, especially their express deals, because let's face it, who doesn't love to save money. I have never had a problem with it until recently. For those of you who are not aware of Express Deals, it's a system where I book a mystery hotel for increased savings and once you lock into a hotel in their terms of service, it is non-cancelable and non-transferrable. I used the feature and there was an express deal that said save 78%, not up to 78%, just flat out save 78% with the price of the hotel being $63 per night, which should have put the hotel in the $280-$290 range. To my dismay, I ended up with a hotel room when I looked up the pictures on travelocity or some other travel website, the room didn't even have a flat screen TV. This is 2017, some motels probably even have flat screen TVs. This did not look like a hotel that would be $280 per night and did not translate into the 78% savings I saw on the screen. I then go back and try to re-book the same express deal to see what happened. This time, under closer inspection, I noticed once I clicked on the express deal, on the next page, in the corner of the picture it changes to save 20%.

Of course I was upset by this finding, so I tried to cancel, but they wouldn't because of their terms of agreement or whatever. I scoured the internet and found an answer.

According to section 4, Category C, subsection 2C.
"We or the applicable hotel may, on an exception basis and at the request of the hotel guest, waive one or more of the restrictions after the hotel room has been booked. We may, in our discretion, impose additional obligations and/or fees in connection with any such waiver. You agree that if your booking is successful, priceline.com will confirm the reservation and charge the entire amount of the stay, including applicable Taxes and Fees (as described below) disclosed to you before booking, to your method of payment. The price listed is per night and does not include priceline.com's charge to you for Taxes and Fees."

Therefore, you call the hotel and ask them if they are ok with canceling it. More then likely they will be. At which point, you have Priceline call them and cancel it. It worked for me.

Of course you can just call your credit card to try and get a charge back, but there's hope for those people

TLDR: Priceline express deal says save 78% savings with cost of hotel being $63 per night. Click on said deal, changes to save 20%. Pissed off, found a way to cancel.
1) Call hotel you received from priceline
2) Ask them to cancel
3) If they agree, call priceline to inform them of this, and ask them to call to cancel. If they refuse, refer to above.
4) Enjoy your refund!

Hi all - I'm in the same boat and need some guidance. When calling the hotel directly - did y'all speak to a front desk rep, hotel operator, etc? I chose the front desk option and requested to speak to a manager from there but was forwarded onto an answering machine. Any suggestion would greatly be appreciated! Thanks!

Both Hotwire and Priceline add at least 10% booking fee to all express and hot rate and NYOP bookings. Seldom good deals.....Use Hotel Tonight or reg Priceline or Booking.com.....best deals

Dontknow

I booked a car rental for two weeks through different places on both Priceline then CarRentals. Place I just rented from wanted $500 to $1,000. Yeah, right! It's Christmas but that's insane.

I'd never chose a mystery car or hotel through a booking service like Priceline or Kayak. Pretty sure they save the good stuff for those willing to just ante up. Finally got it down to $219 for Enterprise or $248 for Budget. Not sure when to exercise my "free cancellation" because I'm after a specific car. Confused

This worked soooo good I called and almost cried to the supervisor and she kept repeating about the online agreement we have I asked her if I called the hotel can they cancel it and she said not there bound by the same rules . I then contacted my payment method to try to cancel the authorization and they couldn't dispute it until it posted and that would've been past my check in . So then to google found this thread and now you are my best friend . I gave it a shot followed your steps and bingo they agreed to the refund concidering the hotel agreed . They three Wayed the hotel (they couldn't just take my word for it) and had no choice but to refund !!! Thank so much will not be changing that ever again !!

Just did it this past week. Worked great. I've done this before when the hotel suggested I do it this way, but I never thought that most hotels would allow this. Thanks, I just saved a ton of cash on a reservation I wasn't going to be able to use.

As a side note, the hotel gave me the run around at first saying they can't do anything since it is "a third party booking." I then called back and asked specifically, would they be okay with canceling it if Priceline called and asked. The lady sounded confused and even laughed saying "okay, I've never heard of that before." But I got her name, called Priceline, told them the hotel was okay with it. They put me on hold 3-4 minutes later full refund.

I tried this about a month ago -- almost the same conversation, but no success for me. She told me she couldn't do anything because it was a third party booking, I asked if Priceline approved it would they be ok, then got her name. When Priceline called and talked to her, she transferred the call to her manager, who did not approve the cancellation. He was willing to let me change it to a different night, but that didn't help me at all since I was only in the area for one night. I ended up just staying there, even thought it was 30 minutes in the wrong direction for our trip.

Cancelled a different reservation today using this method. The hotel didn't question it all and approved it immediately. Priceline then called the hotel directly confirm, inadvertently disconnected me, then called me back to process the cancellation. Much easier than my previous attempt,

I tried to cancel right after because the hotel was super lame and they wouldn't. I searched online at how to cancel and followed your advice. Priceline confirmed with the hotel that they really did say they were willing to cancel and Priceline cancelled my name your own price contract. Yay! Thanks for sharing!

Wow. SO THANKFUL for your post! I had reserved a room last night, making sure to select a pet friendly haotel and was super happy with the high end luxurious place I was booked at... until I saw (on the priceline receipt for my booking) that the hotel charges an additional $75 PER NIGHT to have my pet with me! This is ridiculous and I wasn't made aware of any charges for having my pet! I had selected the filter to show me only pet friendly hotels and they could have at least made known the fact that there could be additional charges... i wouldn't have booked in that case! Priceline is a shady company. 1.5 hrs on the customer service chat with them last night and got nowhere except more and more frustrated! I'm grateful that you posted this, as it worked in getting me a full refund! THANK YOU!

It works! Thank you!!! Priceline tried to corner me into staying with a hotel that would charge me an additional $75 per night to have my pet with me! Very thankful for your post!
