Wait for it. A better 15.6" model with Quad Core 8th Gen i5 CPU, MX150 is coming soon with slightly higher price. Check for my new posts.
It would be okay for some demanding works as well.

These specs seem pretty solid for the price - downside being that it's heavy to lug around at 6.6 pounds but for 17.3" screen, that's going to happen.

Any reason this wouldn't be a good buy for a replacement laptop for parents?

Yeah - agreed. It probably won't be something for any real processing, but realistically, it'll be for internet browsing, emails, Netflix, and some very light Excel/Word work. i5 should be plenty.

Looks like a decent deal.

I'm looking for these kind of specs and price combo but in a 15.6" instead. Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

Because a little over one month after my 1 year warranty expired my Aspire tanked and stopped working completely. The ones with iGPUs are fine but these hybrid ones are a toss up.

So much room to drop in a decent vid card or a nice keyboard and manufacturers do this... why?! Ugh i really like 17" laptops for editing.

And that will increase the cost, right? There are plenty 17" laptops with those premium features but they are costly.
