If only the price of ram wasn't so stupidly high.
Pretty much why I'm refusing to build a new system. I know it's a small portion of the total build. As you said "stupidly high." I'll keep rocking the 3570K a bit longer.
if you have a microcenter nearby, you can get this same bundle for $284.98+tax

or replace the 1700 with a 1700X for $304.98+tax

oh, and if you guys think RAM prices are high, don't even look at graphics card prices.

I've been out of the loop - why are memory prices so high now?

IF you have a micro-center nearby, you can save a few bucks on this, otherwise it's a good deal.

One side it's price fixing by companies. Other side is a abnormally high demand due to smartphone production and only like 2-3 actual manufacturers. You could stay gray and say it's a mix of the two.

Have this motherboard and a ryzen 5. I cannot stand the motherboard. I'd suggest staying away from it. The software (RGB fusion I think it's called) doesn't work. And the board itself looks terrible if you're doing a windowed case. They have the asus b350 on amazon with $40 of rebates right now.

and the kid at microcenter told me that it was one of the main memory factories that caught on fire. said that it may be another 2-3 years for prices to come back down, and may actually increase again before they come back down. it reminds me of when the hard drive factory (if i remember right, it was in malaysia) got flooded and increased hard drive prices a few years ago. a lot of different stories with nobody knowing the actual truth, but eventually prices did come back down. my suggestion for anyone looking to build now (and has the time and patience to wait) is to set up some price alerts at PCpartpicker and look at the pricing history line graphs for the particular components they need. then decide if and when to buy.
