BP and United Airlines will offer BP Driver Rewards and United MileagePlus members the option of earning and using miles on fuel purchases at participating BP U.S. retail locations. You must register for this program.

Earn 200 bonus award miles after joining and making your first fuel purchase with a linked debit or credit card. Members can multiply their earnings through the following options:
  • One award mile for every gallon of fuel purchased*
  • Two award miles for every gallon of fuel purchased with a linked debit or credit card**
  • Three award miles for every gallon of premium-grade fuel purchased with a linked debit or credit card**
In addition, BP Driver Rewards and MileagePlus members will be able to use 60 MileagePlus award miles per gallon for $0.50 off per gallon on a maximum of 20 gallons (for a maximum of $10 off) per fuel purchase. To be eligible to use miles at participating BP stations, you must have an eligible form of payment linked to your Driver Rewards account and have at least 1,200 miles in your MileagePlus account at the time of purchase.

If you do get the 3 miles per gallon, then it's actually not a bad deal and pretty much breakeven with receiving fuel discounts in the BP program. (And let's not debate those who buy premium gas in this forum....). Plus like previous poster mentioned, good way to keep United account active without having to think about it if you're an infrequent traveler.

On the redemption side, it's a really bad deal - so don't redeem the miles for $0.50/gallon gas discount.

I'm sitting on 230k United miles that I'm sure are depreciating daily but we haven't travel since our first baby. We both have the $100 a year mileage plus Chase card to not let miles expire. If I do this we can cancel the credit card and get something more useful? Already got the Amazon prime Chase card as well.

Yes. You could actually just buy one gallon every 18 months and keep your United miles current. Cool


You can also go to Mileage Plus Shopping, where there are dozens of partner stores, e.g. order a pack of light bulbs for store pickup at Home Depot and your miles are safe for 18 months.
