Just saw this, looks like a good program to get free smart thermostat, possibly Nest 3rd generation stainless steel.

LADWP offers the AC Optimization program to residential and commercial customers to help them save on their cooling costs. Without proper maintenance, heating and cooling systems may not operate at optimal levels. These conditions can cause significant energy waste, especially during the hot summer months when cooling systems are used for longer periods.

The AC Optimization Program provides services by certified, professional heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) technicians from approved, licensed contractors to analyze cooling systems and provide basic maintenance and efficiency services. These services are free for all eligible residential and commercial LADWP customers.

Program Services Offered at No Cost to Customers

Replacement or cleaning of standard air filters
Outdoor coil cleaning
System diagnostic test
Refrigerant charge adjustment (up to 2 lbs. of refrigerant will be provided, if applicable)
Installation of smart, Wi-Fi enabled thermostat (for compatible residential systems only, if customer does not already have a smart thermostat)
If the customer's home is not Wi-Fi enabled, or would prefer not to have a smart thermostat installed, the following AC system or Heat Pump alternatives can be installed at no charge to the customer:
Western Cooling Control
Hairrell Heat Pump Control (for all-electric homes)
Instant Rebates for System Improvements and Early Replacement

Duct Testing & Sealing (repair must meet minimum leakage reduction requirement)
$375 maximum rebate available
Early Replacement of eligible low-efficiency AC systems
$1,200 maximum rebate available

Got my free Nest learning thermostat installed today. Took the guy about 1.5 hours to do AC tuneup and install.

I think they are billing the program $675 for everything.

What company did you use? Do you get to choose what kind of thermostat you get?

Just want to say thanks for posting this!

Had the service done the other day by JWS Heating and Air. Took about two hours. My system didn't need any new refrigerant, but they did a full check up on my AC and installed the 3rd Gen nest.

The Nest they installed was the "Pro" version, which apparently comes with a 5 year warranty as opposed to the normal warranty.

I did the service with Home Upgrade Specialist, they have lots of good reviews on Yelp.
Schedule through the yelp chat very quickly , the technician that came was excellent . Very professional, clean and he explained every step!

Apparently, that longer warranty only kicks in if the installer's Nest Pro ID is entered. My installer didn't have that.

They're installing the less expensive Nest E now for the Ladwp program.
