Would the the 650 be good for a big 12 year old? He has wanted a dirt bike for so long now, but not sure he will really use it... kid spends all his free time playing fortnite.

Yes. The mx650 would be just fine for a 12yr old. It goes decently fast so I would imagine he would enjoy it. My 8yr old son has the mx500 and which goes 15mph vs the 17mph the mx650 can do and it's been great.

I bought two for me and my brother, in 5"7 178 lbs and it zips me around like butter, really fun on dirt and works great on the street, worth every penny, might grab a 3rd one at this price

Does it need to be street legal to ride on the road?

These things are fun for kids of all ages! No trouble hauling an adult around on level and at least relatively smooth surfaces. The suspension is very stiff, almost useless. Decent speed but not much torque, so hills can be problematic.

The bikes are easy to repair and hop-up, so keep an eye out for used ones on craigslist. Replace the heavy lead batteries with some lipos for an easy weight reduction and/or range increase.

17mph at 40min of usage is eh like 11 miles... I wonder if I could use this on my commute.
