In for a $100 eBay gift card for 9000 points. I can't travel due to family obligation for a long time and I shop a lot on eBay. I might as well use the discount there and combine it with eBay's end of a fiscal quarter coupon marathon.
Ebay does not allow you to pay for gift cards with gift cards.
What you COULD do is simply buy the $1000 in gas cards for $900, paying with your Chase Freedom via Paypal, and you'd get 5x UR points for your $900 in spend since paypal is one of the bonus categories this quarter... which is 4500 points.
Which is $45 taken as cash, or potentially $67.50 toward travel at the lowest end with a CSR (higher with partner transfers).
i would luv to do something like this with other than gas cards. (dont currently own a car)
any other ideas?

Ebay usually has a decent # of non-gas cards sold at a discount, right now I see clothing stores, sporting goods stores, hardware stores, restaurants, and movie tickets for example...
So any of those would give you the face value discount, stacked with the 5x UR from Freedom via paypal
and they have a TON of cards at face value that still nets you the 5x UR via Freedom.
Also, since this quarter is also grocery stores, and most grocery stores sell a lot of gift cards to other places, any of those would also get 5x when bought at the grocery store.
BTW if you had used the portal to take the refundable room you'd have earned those 1150 Marriot points on the booking.
Meaning the "extra" 250 UR you'd have spent would've gotten you over 4x their value in Marriott points, instead of the poor 1:1 value you got.
Per night.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought booking a Marriott room through UR portal will not earn you the 1150 Marriott points. You have to book it through Marriott's site to earn points.
But the otherwise, you'r right. Marriott and UR are just not the best together, better to spend those points on Hyatt, Southwest or Singapore/Korea airlines.
That's from march 2017 (hint: that comes after 2016)

Thanks KS... I've never yet hopped on maxing out the quarterly bonuses, like last quarter I hsould have prepaid my mobile bill by leaps and bounds.
Grocery stores also means a supermarket chain? buy some giftcard, say if a supermarket carries Amazon cards, $50 for $50, face value...
Do they cards, once you use a portion of it, you activate some kind of month deduct fee that drains the darn balance? some cards do some cards dont?
Typically there's no fee once you begin using it for most cards now- but I can't promise that's true for all of them- should be easy enough to check the terms for any specific ones you're interested in.
And yeah- anything that codes as a grocery store purchase qualifies...usually the only grocery places it excludes are walmart/target, warehouse clubs, and sometimes markets attached to gas stations (which might instead code as a gas station).
if you're unsure make a small charge and then check how the charge coded before dropping a bunch there.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought booking a Marriott room through UR portal will not earn you the 1150 Marriott points. You have to book it through Marriott's site to earn points.

Generally you can just ask the front desk to credit the paid stay to your account. Otherwise, you can just have it added after your stay online. The only thing up in the air would be your benefits.

The Platinum card is a $550 annual fee.
Folks whose fee renewed early enough last year haven't seen the new fee yet though.
Looks like you've got yet another math surprise coming soon

Dude you are just embarrassing yourself now (I mean, you already were, but wow...)
That's a thread from 2016.
I just told you the fee went up to $550 last year
I know you're bad at math but I thought even you could figure out 2017 comes after 2016.
Apparently not.
