It's not oily at all. I am currently using it with my superauto espresso machine.
LOL, just logged in to order, and Amazon helpfully reminded me that I purchased this in April of 2016... at $9.49 after 50% off coupon. must've been a slickdeal purchase back then too. 😉
Not sure what feeding a cat has to do with anything. A better comparison could perhaps have been "like cooking a prime rib-eye in the microwave". Regardless, we grind espresso beans for our Technivorm Moccamaster drip coffee maker quite often, with quite satisfactory results.

Every compare it to illy red? I currently use illy red in my superautos but thinking about switching to Lavazza because it's much cheaper. (6lb tin of illy red is $225)

Got this roast quite a few times. It's towards the lower end of Lavazza's product line, but still very enjoyable. It's not over roasted like Starbucks or most other domestic roasts, and doesn't have that nasty burnt and bitter taste. Is quite bold, but not their most intense blend. Can be used for espresso or cappuccino, although I prefer it for cappuccino. I use this in a Delonghi super-auto machine.

Roast date as well as best use by date are both on the packaging.
