The EasyStore is plug & play, MacOS will offer to initialize the drive into Apple's file format and a moment later it's ready to use. The SSD's can also be used externally in a USB enclosure, and are initialized the same way. I bought the Evo 250 to install inside my 2012 Mac Mini.

Does anyone know what drive is currently in the 4TB Easystore? Is it a red NAS drive (or white equivalent) like the 8TB Easystore? And is it shuckable? 8TB is a little overkill for me.

I'm a newbie to external hard drives. How well do these work on a Mac OS?

According to recent reviews at Bestbuy.com for the 4tb version, some are red and some are blue. Some folks bought a batch and got a little of each, others are getting all blue or all red. One reviewer said that "made in Thailand" drives contain red.
I'm in for 2. It's worth the gamble for me. At $82 a drive it's a slickdeal if they are RED and still OK deal if they are BLUE.

No. Macbook Pro uses a different type of flash memory. It can be upgraded (check out owc) but it's not an ssd form factor.
